Sunday 14th March 2010 This was a match to be forgotten. Admittedly Floriana were without various key players but the team that plays is always representative of the Club and must perform well and at its best. Floriana in the first half started relatively well and had one or two scoring chances. In the 10th minute a free-kick from our right flank by left footed Luca saw the ball soar to the top right hand corner of the goalkeeper who grasped badly with the ball ending into the net making it 1-0. Melita attacked and soon equalized when a well taken corner from our left side saw many of their players being unmarked with one heading the ball into the net. Shortly thereafter Floriana again made it 2-1 when a free kick taken by Francesco mid pitch on our left side saw one of the Melita defenders inadvertently heading the ball into his net. But once again Melita were on the attack and loose marking in the defensive centre allowed their forward to have two possibilities of shooting, and indeed scoring in his second attempt. The first half ended 2-2. In the second half Melita went out on the attack and half way made it 3-2 when a series of one time passing finally saw their no 10 arriving unchallenged in the penalty spot and making it 3-2. Ten minutes before the end it was 4-2 for Melita when a melee in the middle of the penalty area saw their attacker calmly push the ball into an empty net. This was a performance that is not to be repeated.
